Norway keeps its domains for Norwegians. We are how you get one anyway.

A .no domain has to be held by a Norwegian entity. We hold it as your trustee, and everything about the domain is yours.

.no

$89 a year gets the domain registered, activated and yours to run.

How it works

01

You order

Pick the name and pay. We need the domain name, your name, an email address and your country.

02

We register it

The domain goes on the register under our Norwegian business, which is what the local-presence rule requires.

03

You point it wherever you like

You can use your domain freely, like any other domain.

Pricing

One honest price.

$89/ year

Your own registrar, if you prefer.

Register the domain yourself at any registrar that sells .no. We send the Norwegian holder details to enter there and approve the registration. The price is the same.

No setup fee. No separate registry charge. Nothing that turns up on an invoice later and surprises you.

How registrars compare

Low-cost trustees

Lowest

Entity structureVaries by provider. Norid permits 100 domains per organisation number, and some providers hold domains through non-profit associations. The entity behind any trustee can be checked in Brønnøysundregistrene.
Transferring outTerms vary. Some providers charge a fee to move a domain to another registrar or trustee, so the agreement is worth reading before ordering.
PaymentsPayment methods vary by provider. Some accept bank transfer or PayPal only, so it is worth confirming how a payment can be disputed before ordering.
SupportUsually limited to the trustee service.

Transferring outCompletely free, with no questions asked. A written agreement is signed before anything is registered, and when you obtain your own Norwegian organisation number, the domain transfers into your name without hassle.

SupportNorway-specific guidance for as long as you remain a customer, at no additional cost. This covers VAT, VOEC, consumer law, marketing rules and checkout expectations.

Corporate registrars

$220+/year, before additional fees

Transferring outContracts with exit fees and minimum terms apply. Leaving is possible but typically slow.

Leaving is free, at any point in the year.

Walk away whenever it suits you and the agreement ends there. Your renewal date is the only date that matters, and it is yours to keep or drop.

Two business days to transfer out.

Email us and say where you want it. We move it to any registrar you name, or into your own name once you have a Norwegian organisation number. Until you have somewhere for it to go, we keep holding it, and the reason stays your business.

Get a Norwegian organisation number and it is simply yours.

The moment you qualify to hold a .no domain directly, the agreement obliges us to transfer the registration into your own name. That is the point of a trustee. It is meant to be temporary if you want it to be.

If Norway Domain ever stops trading, the domain comes back to you.

The agreement is signed before anything is registered, and it obliges us to hand every domain to a registrar its customer names, or to the customer directly once they can hold a .no themselves, if we ever wind down.

All of it sits in the trustee agreement, which you can read in full right now.

Frequently asked questions.

Who legally owns my domain?

We are the registered holder of record, because Norid will not accept anyone else. In every way that touches your business the domain is yours. You hold the operational and economic rights, and the trustee agreement says so in language you can read without a lawyer sitting next to you.

What happens after I order?

We need the domain name, your name, an email address and your country. No Norwegian ID number, no organisation number, no local address. Most domains are live within twelve hours on Norwegian working days, and you get nameserver access the moment it's registered. Order at nine on a Friday evening and expect Monday.

I already bought the domain but cannot activate it. Now what?

This happens more than you would think. Order as normal and tick the option to register it yourself. We send the Norwegian holder details, and once your registrar submits the registration against them, we approve it.

Can I keep my domain at my own registrar?

Yes. The domain stays in your own account at any registrar that sells .no. We send the Norwegian holder details to enter there and approve the registration. The price is $89 a year either way.

Can I sell the domain later?

Yes. The economic rights are yours, so the domain is yours to sell. Tell us who the buyer is and we transfer it to them, to their own trustee, or straight into their name if they qualify to hold it themselves. Whatever you sell it for is yours to keep.

What happens if I miss a renewal?

Reminders go out 30 days and 7 days before the charge, so missing it takes some doing. If a payment fails we write to you and hold the domain safe while you sort it out. Catching people out and reselling their name is somebody else's business model.

Why card payment rather than a bank transfer?

Stripe checks identity and business documents before approving anyone, so a provider able to take cards has passed that check. Paying by card also carries dispute rights, which an international wire to a company you have never met does not.
